Welcome to the Arthur Street School International page. Children from all over Dunedin attend our conveniently located central city school and enjoy our long tradition of providing high quality education in a very caring family environment.
Our school is located a short walk from the Octagon.
Arthur Street School offers a full primary programme, for new entrants (age 5) to Year 8 (age 12 -13). Our proximity to several preschools, secondary schools such as Otago Boys' High School, Otago Girls' High School and Kavanagh College, make us a convenient school for the whole family.
Fees for Foreign Fee paying international students are set at $200 per week or $8000 per annum plus GST.
Our school has agreed to observe and be bound by the 'Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of International Students' published by the Ministry of Education. Fees cover all tuition fees throughout the year with additional charges for education outside the classroom (i.e school camps) and sports subscriptions (for students who play a sport for a school team in an after school competition)
We offer a comprehensive English programme with a fully qualified teacher. Our ESOL teacher runs group lessons in the ESOL room or works alongside students in class. Students are grouped according to their age and language needs. Students receive 3-4 lessons with the ESOL teacher per week.
Arthur Street School offers quality learning programmes to cater for a range of abilities and needs and has a wide ranging curriculum covering a variety of sporting, cultural and technology based activities. A full curriculum is offered to all students with a range of technology classes available to our senior students. Below is an outline of the NZ Curriculum which states what each area is about and how learning is structured.
Sporting Activities - Students learn the skills required for summer and winter sports during physical education (P.E) lessons. Weekly swimming lessons are an important component during terms 1 and 4.
We hold an annual cross country race, athletic sports and swimming sports in which students of all ages take part in. Students also have opportunities to join school sports teams, to play in after school competitions. Our school has had teams entered in competitions for the following sports.
